Wellkeepers
Find the wells. Care for them. Honour the waters.
“The old oaken bucket, the iron-bound bucket,
The moss-covered bucket which hung in the well.”
— Samuel Woodworth, “The Old Oaken Bucket”

WHO ARE THE WELLKEEPERS?
We are a movement led by Miri O'Connor, founder of Rootlight Rituals. Our purpose is to find, protect and restore our wells and springs. We bring people together to take action in their own communities.
Have you ever walked past an old well and wondered about its story? Who came here for water? Why was it covered over? And could someone care for it again?
If you feel drawn to these places and want to do something, you are welcome here.
Founding membership is £25 for a year
WHAT CAN WE DO TOGETHER?
We can discover old maps, listen to local stories and record the wells and springs that still exist.
We can ask questions about places that have been neglected, speak with their owners and explore how they might be cared for.
We can spend time with the water, acknowledge its place in our lives and help others remember why it matters.
Water is living. Caring for a well means caring for the water, the history and the life around it. Practical work and ceremony both have a place.

FAQs
Do I need a certain level of knowledge before I join?
No. You might already be researching a local spring. You might have a well in your village, town, or city that you’d love to know more about. Or you might simply feel that these places deserve more care.
You can begin by noticing, photographing, listening or asking a question.
There’s room here for different kinds of involvement.
You don’t have to undertake physical work to make a difference.
Can I join from my local area?
Yes. Our gatherings are online, and you’re welcome to bring discoveries and questions from wherever you live.
Do I need to share a particular spiritual belief?
No. You’re welcome whether your interest is historical, environmental, spiritual, or a mixture of all three. We ask members to respect each other’s perspectives.
Does membership include visits or restoration work?
Membership includes the online community, monthly gatherings and the benefits listed above. Visits, special ceremonies and practical projects will be arranged separately.
Any physical work needs the owner’s permission and an appropriate plan for that particular site. Membership doesn’t authorise access to private land or alterations to a well.
Are products and special ceremonies included?
Teas, ritual boxes, readings and separately ticketed ceremonies are optional purchases. You don’t need to buy anything extra to take part in the membership.
How long does the founding membership last?
It covers your first year. Renewal arrangements and the price for the following year will be shared with you in advance.
What is Rootlight Rituals?
Miri O'Connor created Rootlight Rituals to help people reconnect with nature, the moon, the seasons and themselves. Her work with wells comes from that same relationship with the living world. The herbs we drink grow from the land. Water becomes part of every cup of tea. Ritual gives us a moment to notice and honour what sustains us. Wellkeepers brings that care into our communities. You are welcome to join whether or not you buy Rootlight Rituals products or take part in ceremonies. Our shared purpose is caring for wells and springs.
“Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.”
— Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Part II.
