A ritual for the turning of the year 🌑

Samhain is calling...

Hello moon lovers!  Autumn is beginning to make itself known here in Oxfordshire. The evenings are drawing in, the hedgerows are changing, and I’ve found myself spending rather a lot of time underground and in wells lately...

Since my last newsletter, I’ve been continuing my mission to find, map and unblock the forgotten wells and springs of my local area.

Alongside this, I’ve begun offering well healings for those who have an old well, spring or water source on their land and feel called to reconnect with it.

And then there are the tunnels...!

The Bloxham Underground Tunnel Society continues its quest to uncover and investigate the mysterious tunnels beneath the village, and I’ve been lucky enough to join them in their explorations.

For now, I am sworn to secrecy about what we are finding beneath Bloxham...

But I can tell you that it is an extraordinary project, and I hope there will be much more I can share with you in time.

Long before Halloween became pumpkins, costumes and trick-or-treating, its roots lay in the ancient Irish festival of Samhain: a threshold marking the ending of the old year and the beginning of the darker half of the year.

It was a time for remembering those who came before us, acknowledging endings and preparing to cross into a new cycle.

This year, I wanted to create something that would allow us to mark that threshold intentionally at home. But I wanted to create more than a collection of beautiful ritual objects.

I wanted to create an experience of Samhain.

So I brought together a small circle of artists, makers and thinkers, each contributing their own craft to create something especially for this season.

At the heart of the box is my Waning Moon Tea, blended with herbs traditionally associated with release, grounding and turning inward. From there, the botanicals, artwork, philosophy and ritual were developed in conversation with the energy of the Waning Moon and the deeper themes of Samhain: ancestry, endings, remembrance, release and our descent into the darker months of the year.

The result is the Limited Edition Samhain Ritual Box, created to take you across the threshold of Samhain and into winter.

Inside you’ll find:

Waning Moon Tea, blended for release and reflection Honour Ritual Spray, created with juniper, clary sage and rosemary Release Bath Oil, with hyssop, Roman chamomile and bergamot Original artwork by Irish artist Cadhla Forde, commissioned especially for this edition An original philosophical letter by Dr Robert Rowland Smith, written especially for Samhain A guided Samhain ritual, bringing each element together into one ceremonial experience

Every element has been created specifically for this box. The botanicals, words, artwork and ritual speak to one another, drawing upon the plants of the Waning Moon blend and the esoteric symbolism of Samhain and the lunar phase under which the work was created.

This is not a permanent Rootlight Rituals collection.

It is a limited seasonal edition, created for Samhain 2026.

An invitation to make a sanctuary in your own home. To brew the tea. Prepare the space. Honour those who came before you. Release what you do not wish to carry into winter.

And consciously cross the threshold into the darker half of the year.

The Samhain Ritual Box is £79, and this is a limited small-batch 2026 edition.

Rootlight Rituals on retreat 🌙🧘‍♀️

One of the loveliest things to happen over the summer has been seeing the teas travel into other people's rituals and practices.

At the Idler Festival, I met Claire Whalley, founder of The Yoga for Life Project, when she came along to my Moon Tea Ceremony. Claire has since been serving Rootlight Rituals teas at her retreats, and it feels like such a natural home for them.

There is something particularly beautiful about bringing the moon and yoga together. Both invite us to slow down, become more aware of the body and notice the rhythms we so easily lose touch with in everyday life.

Claire’s retreats weave together yoga, meditation, breathwork, restorative practice, nature, beautiful vegetarian food and, on many retreats, wild swimming. They are designed as genuine spaces to step away from the noise of everyday life and return feeling rested, nourished and reconnected.

She has several beautiful Devon retreats still to come this autumn and winter, making this a particularly lovely time to retreat as the seasons begin to turn inward.

And there is a little gift for the Rootlight Rituals community:

Rootlight Rituals followers receive 10% off a Yoga for Life Project retreat when you mention Rootlight Rituals when booking.

So if you’ve been feeling the pull to step away for a few days, deepen your practice and give yourself some proper space to rest, you can explore Claire’s upcoming retreats below.

And finally... a little New Moon invitation 🌑

As we move towards the next New Moon, perhaps take it as an invitation to begin again.

The New Moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle. The sky grows dark, the previous cycle has come to its close, and we are given a quiet moment before the Moon begins to grow once more.

It is my favourite time to slow down, make a pot of Rootlight Rituals New Moon Tea, and ask myself a simple question:

What do I want to begin?

I created the New Moon blend with four beautiful organic herbs, each chosen to support that feeling of clearing space and gently stepping into a new cycle.

Nettle for nourishment and strength. Lemongrass for freshness and clarity. Lemon balm for calm and quiet reflection. Peppermint for its bright, refreshing quality and sense of awakening.

Together they create a fresh, uplifting blend to accompany those first intentions of the lunar cycle.

You don't need an elaborate ritual. Brew your tea, put your phone away for ten minutes, sit somewhere quiet and allow yourself to consider what you would like to call into the cycle ahead.

As Mary Shelley wrote:

“The beginning is always today.”

What better reminder for a New Moon?

Until next time, enjoy the turning of the season, the darkening skies and all the new beginnings waiting within them.

With love,

Miri x Rootlight Rituals 🌙
